Dark Dimension was a fan made audio adaptation, produced by Pharos Features, of an abandoned script for Doctor Who's 30th anniversary.

The serial was released in 4 weekly parts between Jan 23 and Feb 13 2021.

In order to promote the release, a CGI trailer was commissioned. This task fell to a fellow creative, and good friend of mine, Anthony Motto, who began my involvement in the project by asking me to produce the sound design and music for the trailer.

SOUND DESIGN:

The process was a very collaborative effort throughout, with Anthony sending me updated versions of the trailer each time a new shot was added. I would then construct the accompanying sound design and make tweaks and adjustments as we discussed our work.

As the production was a fan-made dedication to Doctor Who, we decided that the trailer should contain many references to the show. For my part, that meant including sounds sourced from the show's wealthy history of episodes. Some of these include the iconic sound of the TARDIS, and some teleportation / vortex sounds from episodes including Survival (1989) & Logopolis (1981).

MUSIC:

Once the final render of the trailer had been made, with finalised timings, I was able to begin work on the music for the trailer. I decided, very early on, that I wanted to include samples of the Doctor Who theme to add to the 'anniversary' feel the story has.

Quite deliberately, the music track only runs for about a third of the trailer. I did this as there was a somewhat mysterious, almost frightening, tone to the trailer and I didn't want to impede that tone with an intrusive music track. Furthermore, the sound design I had already created was enough to carry the majority of the trailer.

The short piece of music that I did compose, for this reason, was kept very light and airy to increase the existing tension.
