Roles:

  • Digital Marketing Executive

Between January and July 2022, I was the Digital Marketing Executive for The Full Freezer.

Included in my responsibilities was the managing, handling and organising of customer data as well as several internal documents and research into new platforms and processes.

My responsibilities also included the redesigning of several brand assets, including YouTube thumbnails, and the creation of new assets, including YouTube End Screens for use in standard 16:9 and portrait 'Shorts' 9:16 formats.

Thumbnails

The finalised thumbnail design is based on experimentation and testing that I had performed with Kate. This experimentation led us to settle on one particular style. I then took this further by adding a rotating colour scheme to the thumbnails based on the background colour used in each video.

For the blue and red colour schemes, it was as simple as changing the colour block to match the video.

For the videos with a white background, however, things would be a little more complicated.
I couldn't just change the colour block to be white as this would mean the whole image was one big white square, so I reversed the colour scheme instead, with the negative space and colour block swapping places.

This, in turn, created it's own minor complication. Suddenly there was an imbalance, as there would have been two thumbnail styles with a blue and white colour scheme but only one in red. To counter this, I created an additional white 'inverted' style using red instead of blue, meaning that every other video with a white background swaps between a blue or a red thumbnail.

As the thumbnails are all based on a template that I had created on the shared design tool, Canva, Kate is still able to easily produce thumbnails in this style even after I have left The Full Freezer.

End Screens

In addition to the new thumbnail design, I also created brand new End Screens for use on YouTube.

One in 16:9 (landscape) and another in 9:16 (portrait). The 9:16 style would be more likely to see greater use as most of the videos uploaded to The Full Freezer on YouTube are Shorts videos, which are exclusively portrait.
